Kurdistan Workers' Party Case IEDs in Teapots

May 30, 2016

Amid ongoing counter-terror operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey in March and April 2016, Turkish security forces seized, neutralized and documented a variety of different IEDs employed by the PKK in the ongoing conflict. Significantly, among the various IEDs was the first documentation of PKK IEDs cased in teapots, some with added fragmentation for enhanced lethality. The teapot IEDs were intended to be used against Turkish security forces operating against the PKK, emplaced to hinder the advancement of – and maim or kill – ground troops against PKK positions.
