On March 8, 2016, a video was posted on one of the Facebook pages of senior Libyan National Army (LNA) EOD officer Lieutenant Tarek al-Sae'eti depicting al-Sae'eti giving a tour of a collection of recovered IEDs, munitions, and initiation systems. Al-Sae'eti noted for the first time, the presence and use of passive infrared motion detectors (PIRMDets) in IED initiation systems in Libya. The use of PIR sensors has been documented in the past in Iraq and Lebanon, where they have proven effective as IED initiation systems.
