On January 15, 2022, the Al-Amaliqa Brigades, an elite militia aligned with the Yemeni National Army, neutralized an array of IEDs planted by the Houthis in Bayhan District, in Shabwah Governorate, in southwestern Yemen.
Most of the neutralized IEDs were connected to Iranian RC initiation systems commonly used by the Houthis in Yemen. The main IEDs were concealed inside innocuous objects, while Claymore-type mines were hidden inside rock camouflage shells sealed with polyurethane foam, which is also common in this arena. Among the neutralized IEDs were two particularly large IEDs concealed inside two barrels, with a special apparatus for holding the large cylindrical IEDs. Both barrel IEDs were fitted with the usual Houthi RC initiation systems. The recent production and use of enlarged IEDs, mines and even IRAM warheads by the Houthis is notable.
