TGA0682 FARC-EP Segunda Marquetalia Using Trail Cameras with PIR Sensors, Venezuela

On March 13, 2022, National Bolivarian Armed Forces charged with locating and clearing terrorist camps in the Venezuelan state of Apure, bordering Colombia, discovered three trail cameras with PIR, used to provide advance warning of trespassers.

These trail cameras were found at a FARC-EP Segunda Marquetalia camp raided by the forces, and were likely set up around the camp as part of the security precautions employed by the armed group that cultivates and traffics drugs for export, and prepares IEDs for their use and for the protection of their bases of operation in this area.

The presence of expensive trail cams indicates the importance of these camps to the armed group and demonstrates the technological surveillance means they use to protect their assets.

These devices could be easily converted into IED initiation systems initiated by the PIR sensor in the camera. While this has not been evidenced to date, the threat is real.
