As part of an escalation in the security situation in Manipur, a series of bombings targeting pharmacies have taken place in the city recently. On June 10, 2022, an IED fitted with a mobile phone-based RC initiation system, planted near a pharmacy, was neutralized. The IED was initially found by one of the pharmacy employees, and the police were later notified by the owner of the establishment.
The seizure and neutralization of the IED placed outside the pharmacy on June 10, 2022, is in fact a continuation of a trend of IED attacks targeting pharmacies by small nationalist organizations operating in the Manipur area, apparently against the background of attempts to extort sponsorship /protection fees.
