In late October and during the first half of November 2023, security forces in Myanmar and militias operating in the country documented the use of a similar model of improvised ammunition for armed drones intended for use in attacks against security forces in Shan State, in eastern Myanmar. The improvised bomblets have an almost identical design but are different sizes. The high-quality materials and the high level of finish, in particular, the uniform design, among other features, indicate a step up in the serial production of ammunition for armed drones by several militias in the country. At this time, a limited number of militias are using these models of improvised bomblets, and it appears they all operate in the same area – near the China-Myanmar border, where there has been an escalation in fighting in recent weeks, with the participation of both new and veteran militias, against military and police forces. Concurrently, the fighting throughout Myanmar continues, as does the development and refinement of the capabilities of the armed militias, a major part of which now includes the use of UAVs armed with a wide variety of ammunition produced in a manner that is becoming more and more serialized and organized.
