In recent months, documentation from the Pakistani arena indicates the manufacturing and use of improvised bomblets by Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan. In addition, there is documentation of TTP militants successfully downing several Pakistan Army armed UAVs carrying standard bomblets manufactured for the military. This is a new trend in Pakistan, and an attack tactic that is increasing in other theaters of operations worldwide. Pakistani security forces and militants are now also using weaponized UAVs to fight each other. Although this initial use of armed quadcopters may be limited to Pakistan’s border regions for now, their proliferation may increase the use of this TTP into urban environments as well.
