On December 17, 2024, two Russian military officers (a general and his aide) were killed in an IED attack in central Moscow, Russia. Russian authorities claim the IED was attached to an electric scooter that was left in front of the entrance to the building, where one of the targeted officers lived.
In recent months, there has been a rise in the intensity of assassinations of Russian officials and public figures in Russian territory, presumably by Ukrainian forces. This assassination is the fifth since September 2024. Usually, assassination TTPs of this kind involve magnetically-attached IEDs planted by recruited agents. Unlike previous attempts, when sticky IEDs were planted inside or under the victims’ cars, this assassination is the first to involve an IED attached to an electric scooter.
