Since May 2026, documentation of a new Ukrainian loitering munition designated D-4, referred to in Russian sources as “Baton,” has begun to appear in Russian military-focused sources. The long-range UAV is equipped with Starlink connectivity and incorporates autonomous optical navigation.
The D-4 reflects a broader shift in Ukrainian loitering munition development toward platforms equipped with autonomous navigation. As electronic countermeasures have become increasingly effective on the battlefield, the ability to complete a strike autonomously without reliance on satellite navigation has become a critical operational capability.
