On August 21, 2026, Brazilian Military Police discovered five IEDs fitted with RC initiation systems incorporated into defensive obstacles by the Terceiro Comando Puro in Cidade Alta, part of the Complexo de Israel in northern Rio de Janeiro. The devices were concealed within tire barricades and vehicles positioned to obstruct police access and formed part of a broader defensive system that also included deep road trenches, conventional tire barricades, upright pole-and-tire obstacles, burning vehicles used as roadblocks, and up-armored vehicles fitted with thick laminated glass with firing ports cut through some of the windows. The integration of RC-initiated IEDs into these existing access-control measures significantly increases the threat posed by criminal barricades, transforming passive obstacles into potential ambush points while up-armored vehicles provide protected positions for armed resistance.
