Egyptian military forces continue to crack down on Islamic State operatives in Sinai, exposing various weapons and IEDs used in attacks in this arena.
Our monitoring of the technical details of the weapons used by the group in the Sinai Peninsula and the configuration of the documented IEDs has revealed a transition from the group’s former use of mainly old weapons collected from old fighting zones to the preparation of IEDs with simple initiation systems but at the same time, bridging gaps for certain types of weapons sorely needed by the group, such as anti-tank items, by developing improvised AT launchers based on collected UXO AT rounds.
This report will summarize the progression of the weapons used by Islamic State operatives in Sinai between 2019 and 2021.
