On the night of January 28, 2022, on the eve of the Chinese New Year celebrations, at least 20 small IEDs were emplaced throughout the city of Yala in southern Thailand. Most of them initiated.
The next day, between the afternoon and evening hours, four more small IEDs were initiated. According to the investigation, the IEDs were placed next to various targets by a number of militants on motorcycles impersonating food delivery couriers.
Most of the small IEDs, which contained no fragmentation and were fitted with electronic delay timers, caused minor damage, and some were neutralized.
