On the evening of March 27, 2022, two gunmen from Umm al-Fahem carried out a shooting attack in the middle of Hadera, a city in central Israel. The attack was claimed by the Islamic State, the first time the group has claimed an attack in Israel since a stabbing attack in Jerusalem in 2017. The weapons and ammunition found at the scene and later, in the terrorists’ hometown indicate the attack was carefully planned, and would have had far deadlier results had the gunmen not been rapidly neutralized. The attack was claimed along with a stabbing attack carried out in Beer Sheva by a Bedouin citizen a few days earlier, suggesting IS’ resurfaced presence in Israel remains an imminent threat.
