Mobius report – Rectangular Sticky IEDs with Delay Timers, India

On May 8, 2022, acting on information received by the police, two suspects were arrested in the village of Naushehra Pannuan, in Tarn Taran District, in the state of Punjab, in northern India. A blue bag with a rectangular IED packed in a black metal box, weighing between 2.5-3.5 kg, was recovered from the possession of the detainees. During the neutralization of the IED, an electronic delay timer, in addition to fragmentation, a battery and a detonator were found. Since the start of the year, IEDs with identical components and configurations have been recovered. Remains of an IED recovered from the scene of a taxi explosion on January 29, 2022, in the village of Jari, in Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh – India’s northernmost state – were found to be identical to the abovementioned IED components. Recently, identical sticky IEDs originating in Pakistan have started to appear in India. These are estimated to be a replacement for IEDs cased in tiffin boxes documented the previous year from the same source.
