Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, documentation of a number of smart anti-tank mines not previously used in the Ukrainian arena has been evidenced. In April 2022, for the first time, the use of an advanced anti-tank mine – a Russian PTKM-1R top-attack smart mine – was documented. On the Ukrainian side, AT mines were also recently documented, specifically, German DM31 AT mines and DM22 off-road mines, in addition to French HPD2 series mines recently delivered to the Ukrainian Army. The war in Ukraine is serving to showcase smart weapons developed in recent years that are often making their first appearance in this active combat arena.
