On July 26, 2022, the preparation and launch of a loitering munition named the Murad-6 was documented by the Iraqi Saraya Ababeel group, who claimed they used it in an attack against Turkish bases in northern Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. Close-up frames of the Murad-6 in the video reveals a resemblance to different variants of the Iranian Delta-wing family documented in Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Similar to loitering munitions used in recent attacks in Iraq, this weapon is another variant of the Delta-wing, which, at present, is unique to the country. Saraya Ababeel’s video marks the first operational use of a Delta-wing loitering munition by a pro-Iran façade group in Iraq, a phenomenon that is likely to expand to other local groups supported by Iran.
