On September 6, 2022, an IED was discovered in a primary school by a schoolteacher in Narathiwat Province, in southern Thailand. The IED was neutralized by bomb disposal technicians. In the course of the investigation into the incident, it was discovered the IED was disguised as a box of cookies, and was collected by the school janitor together with a daily delivery of foodstuffs that was left at the end of a bridge leading to the school. The IED contained PETN explosive, cut metal rebar fragmentation and a BaoFeng radio-based RC initiation system with an electronic DTMF circuit. The target of the IED may have been the police escort that accompanies schoolteachers traveling to the school every day, and not the school itself.
