Mobius report 67/2022 – Improvised Shaped Charge Warheads for UAV Ammunition Produced in Ukraine

During July and August 2022, improvised bomblets for UAVs, incorporating shaped warheads designed specifically to penetrate armored vehicles, started to appear in Ukraine. The improvised warheads have copper liners and one of two geometric shapes – a concave configuration, which is the EFP warhead, and a conical configuration for narrow and maximum penetration. The preparation of improvised anti-tank warheads marks a continuation of the Ukrainian attempts to produce improvised UAV ammunition for use against Russian armored vehicles, which until now, was dependent on standard ammunition with hollow warheads modified for use with armed UAVs. The manufacture and subsequent use of such improvised ammunition highlights the continuing trend of Ukrainian public assistance in the production of improvised ammunition for the fighting forces in the arena.
