Mobius report 70/2022 – Booby Traps Used by Russian Special Forces in Ukraine

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Ukrainian security forces have documented numerous incidents of booby traps set up by retreating Russian forces, most of which were improvised, using simple munition items.

Recently, special anti-handling devices have begun to appear, which are mainly used by Russian Special Forces. These include the ML-8 anti-lift firing device, MVZ-72 electrical break wire initiator and NVU-P seismic initiation system. The introduction of these special booby trap devices into the Ukrainian combat arena indicates the deployment of dedicated and special units, whose purpose is to plant explosive devices fitted with dangerous booby-trapped initiation systems.
