In recent years, the use of UAVs in armed drone configurations has become a common and tactical TTP used by drug cartel groups in Mexico, especially the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación, which has been engaged in a violent struggle against the Cárteles Unidos in Michoacán State since early 2021. Recently, on January 21, 2023, National Guard forces discovered a large UAV connected to an improvised bomblet in a tree in Aguililla municipality, in Michoacán State. On May 23, 2022, a CU camp and vehicles were attacked with a CJNG armed UAV, and on January 11, 2022, another CJNG armed UAV attack was documented against a camp in the village of El Bejuco, in Tepalcatepec, in Michoacán.
