In March 2023, documentation of the warhead and some internal components of a Lancet-3 loitering munition was published for the first time online. The images suggest the Lancet’s warhead is based on a KZ-6 shaped charge and the UAS has an additional small plastic explosive charge inserted in a compartment in the rear of the UAV. Since the first visual confirmation in July 2022, documentation of the Lancet in operational use has increased. Today, the Lancet is probably the most common standard loitering munition in use in the war in Ukraine. Interestingly, it is frequently deployed by the Kaskad Donetsk People’s Republic militia.
