In April 2023, Russian and Ukrainian social media presented examples of a polystyrene and gasoline mixture and its possible application with IEDs, and specifically with small weaponized UAVs. The mixture is very easy to make, and the components are readily available. While the mixture itself is not innovative, the combination of incendiary components with explosives in IEDs and the suggestion to use them with weaponized UAVs is unusual in the Ukrainian theater of operations. Furthermore, the almost simultaneous reference by both the Ukrainian and Russian sides to this topic may indicate the start of a trend.
