Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, we have witnessed the continuous use of RC initiation systems/blasting machines by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In April 2023, an RC initiation system was used with an IED that was randomly discovered in a playground in the city of St. Petersburg, in Russia, by some teenagers. This initiation system joins a series of standard and improvised initiation systems observed in use by the Ukrainian Army for the purpose of initiating IEDs and explosive charges by EOD personnel in neutralization operations. This report aims to collate the various RC initiation systems and blasting machines used by the Ukrainian Army and affiliated forces.
