On April 10, 2023, a motorcycle VBIED was initiated next to the vehicle of a senior Quetta police officer near Qandhari Bazar, in Quetta, in Balochistan, Pakistan. As a result of the explosion, two police officers and two civilians were killed. The senior officer whose car was targeted was not injured.
The targeting of key figures in local government, high-ranking police officers, religious authorities and local militia leaders with motorcycle VBIEDs is a common tactic employed by terrorist organizations in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan. The use of motorcycle VBIEDs against high-value targets usually requires the organization to have precise intelligence on the target’s routine movements, and necessitates more sophisticated plotting than other tactical assassinations.
