In June 2023, following confrontations between rival cartels and an underbelly IED attack that destroyed an armored security forces vehicle in Apatzingán, in Michoacán State, numerous improvised bomblets for armed UAVS and an anti-drone gun were recovered. With the increased use of armed UAVs by cartels in Mexico, the cartels, as well as Mexican security forces, have had to equip themselves with anti-drone guns. The C-UAS equipment being used by both the Mexican authorities and the cartels may also influence the fight against drug trafficking and border crimes.
