On September 5, 2023, Tajik security forces raided a hideout of the Jamaat Ansarullah group in Darvoz District, in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province, in central-southern Tajikistan, where three of its militants who infiltrated from Afghanistan had taken refuge. Among the items recovered during the raid were American and Russian weapons, estimated to originate from the Afghan Taliban. In addition, there were rectangular cases that bore resemblance to RC receiver casings documented in use by the Taliban prior to the takeover of Afghanistan. Altogether, these may be considered corroborative evidence of the Taliban’s support of Jamaat Ansarullah, which to some extent justifies its unofficial name – the Tajik Taliban.
