In recent months, since June 2023, standard and improvised weapons have been documented in use by the parties involved in the violent conflict in Manipur. Among the documented munition items were hand grenades and rifle grenades, mortar bombs and other weapons that originated from weapons looted from the bases of Indian security forces and Indian police during riots that broke out in May in response to attacks by Kuki militants against Meiteis in Manipur. The use of standard weapons constitutes an unusual and deadly addition to the improvised weapons that have been documented in the clashes between the Kukis and the Meiteis in the arena so far.
