In the early morning hours of October 7, 2023, the last day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, the Hamas terrorist organization, in cooperation with other Palestinian terrorist groups, launched a surprise attack on Israel. The meticulously coordinated attack incorporated a number of tactics, employed simultaneously, which enabled the terrorists to successfully infiltrate towns and kibbutzim in the Western Negev region near the Gaza Strip, as well as military bases, by air, sea and land. The terrorists overcame the defense measures deployed along the border, while firing heavy rocket barrages at Israel. In the space of one day, over 3,000 terrorists infiltrated Israel, slaughtering some 1,400 civilians and soldiers, and concluding with 240 people being kidnapped to Gaza, where they are now being held. The Hamas-led attack was the worst in the history of the Jewish people since the Holocaust, and is described as Israel’s 9/11.
