In the early morning of October 7, 2023, the Hamas terrorist organization launched a surprise attack on the State of Israel. In the aftermath of the unprecedented, deadly assault, numerous weapons and IEDs left behind by some 3,000 Hamas and other terrorists who participated in the attack were recovered and collected. Later, some of these items were presented by the Israel Defense Forces’ special tasks combat engineering unit. According to the elite unit, the weapons presented constitute less than ten percent of the total amount of weapons recovered after the attack. The seized items included different RPG rockets, assorted fragmentation IEDs, anti-tank IEDs, breaching IEDs, and other special charges. The sources of the weapons included locally-produced improvised items – copies of standard weapons – as well as standard weapons of Iranian, Russian and North Korean production. The wide variety and quantities of different types of weapons, added to the medical equipment and detailed documents seized from the terrorists, indicate a long-term and far more deadly attack was planned than the one they were able to carry out.
