During 2022, and even more so in 2023, militias across Myanmar continued to use, and even increased their use of standard 107 mm rockets to attack concentrations of military and security forces in the country’s different battle zones. The rockets were often fired without standard or improvised launchers, or from very simple launchers, connected to electrical initiation systems of various types, including command wire, RC or time delay. Several models of standard rockets are known to be used by the various forces. However, in recent months, the use of rockets marked with the letter R was prominent, concurrent with Chinese rockets, which have been used in the country by armed fighters for years. The rockets marked with the letter R may be produced by the army, or by one of the veteran militant groups active in the country. The presence of a large number of standard 107 mm rockets is especially notable against the background of the lack of standard ammunition in the arsenals of most of the militant groups in the country, and these rockets appear to be relatively available to the various forces, possibly because they do not require special launchers for firing, and can be easily connected to any electrical initiation system, and used in different attack scenarios, in both indirect and direct firing formations.
