Mobius 95/2023 – Houthi Anti-Ship Missile Threat, Yemen

Since the surprise deadly attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent outbreak of war between the Israel Defense Forces and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis in Yemen have been attacking ships sailing under the flags of a variety of nations in international waters off their coastline. In the course of these attacks, the Galaxy Leader vehicle carrier was hijacked and towed to the port of Al-Hodeidah. In addition, different loitering munitions, ballistic cruise missiles, and anti-ship missiles were also fired at a large number of ships.

These incidents illustrate the growing and imminent threat to maritime traffic posed by the Houthis in the vicinity of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

In this report, we will detail the types of ballistic and anti-ship missiles in the possession of the Houthi forces, most of which are copies of Iranian missiles.
