On January 30, 2024, the Islamic State – Pakistan Province claimed responsibility for a motorcycle VBIED attack targeting a rally organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party in Sibi, central Pakistan. It joined a series of attacks targeting politically-oriented events preceding the general elections, which took place on February 8, 2024. The surge of attacks serves as a reminder for ISPP’s opposition to any form of governance that is not based on the Islamic Shariah. This sentiment aligns with various other anti-government voices in Pakistan. Notably, most of ISPP’s recent attacks, as claimed by the group, involved the use of motorcycle VBIEDs, a TTP primarily associated with other militias in Pakistan, such as the Pakistani Taliban and Balochi separatist factions.
