In January 2024, a truck carrying FPV racing drone frames, rotors, batteries, and other components was intercepted in Oman. The cargo’s final destination was reportedly Yemen. These drones are notorious for their use as improvised loitering munitions in numerous combat zones, particularly by Russian and Ukrainian forces in the war in Ukraine. If the destination of these components was indeed Yemen, this may indicate a major development in armed militias’ UAV warfare in this arena, especially when considering Iran’s constant supply of weapons and UAV components to the Houthis via various smuggling routes in the UAE and Oman.
