Recently, Russian forces were observed using an FPV racing drone-based improvised loitering munition fitted with a PG round and guided via a fiber-optic cable, rather than the usual UAV wireless datalink transmission. Fiber-optic cables have been weaponized for years, used with various guided missiles, yet their use with weaponized FPV racing drones is an unusual trend in irregular UAV warfare, emerging in Ukraine and other arenas.
