On the morning of June 30, 2024, a VBIED initiated outside a residential building accommodating families of police officers from the Bannang Sata Police Station, located near Tesban 5 Road, in Bannang Sata city, in Yala Province.
According to the investigation, the vehicle used as the VBIED belonged to the Than To Subdistrict Administrative Organization.
The VBIED, a blue Toyota pickup, reportedly contained an 80 kg main charge explosive and was initiated via a short delay system. One woman was killed, and 30 police officers and civilians were wounded in the explosion, in addition to damage to property.
The TTP of planting and initiating a VBIED against such targets is not new, but this marks the first time this attack TTP was employed in 2024.
