On July 10, 2024, an IED was found and neutralized by an EOD unit next to a bus stop in Moo No. 1, in Ban Na Ket, in Khok Pho District, Pattani Province, in southern Thailand.
The IED comprised a fire extinguisher casing for the main charge explosive, and an RC initiation system with DTMF, combined with an industrial timer.
Both types of systems – RC based radios with DTMF, and industrial timer systems – have been documented in the past in southern Thailand, but the combination of an RC system with a delay system is new in this arena.
