During June and July 2024, operational documentation of the use of a net deployed from Russian UAVs to down Ukrainian UAVs was posted on Russian social networks.
Experiments with UAV net deployment were recently documented by the Ukrainians, but we have not seen any documentation of their operational use to date.
The use of various kinetic tools as a means of downing both rotary- and fixed-wing UAVs constitutes a broad field of development with a range of experiments and measures, incorporating shooting or deploying nets, using devices and fragmentation IEDs to ambush UAVs, shooting buckshot at UAVs, including slow-moving fixed-wing UAVs, in addition to firing other devices using automatic firearms. This is in addition to the use of FPV racing drones to attack other UAVs, anti-aircraft missiles and, of course, electronic warfare.
