Since the fighting in Syria dropped from the headlines in recent years, there have been many weapons seizures across the country. Many of these weapons were attributed to Islamic State cells and this is also evident from the characteristics of the IEDs. However, there is also documentation of weapons and IEDs that seem to originate from other groups who previously operated in, or are currently operating in, Syria. The large quantity of weapons documented points to the extensive activity of Syrian security forces, as well as other forces that control parts of the country, to root out the various militant groups. Notwithstanding these valiant efforts, it is likely the IS cells in the country retain a presence on the scene.
