In late September and early October 2024, two IED incidents took place along road number 42, in Pattani Province, in southern Thailand. The first event occurred on September 27, 2024, when an IED concealed in a metal cabinet planted on the side of a road initiated. Two weeks later, on October 10, 2024, another roadside IED disguised as a marker post was discovered and neutralized.
These incidents indicate the resurfacing of a known TTP witnessed in Thailand in the past, in which roadside IEDs are camouflaged and concealed in order to prevent their detection by either passersby or security forces during routine patrols.
