On October 28, 2024, Russian forces published documentation of an alleged Ukrainian weapons cache they seized in Ukraine. The cache included what appears to be commercially available electronic fish bite alarms with a line tension sensor used by fishermen to detect movements or disturbances on a fishing line. The detection of such devices in a weapons cache may indicate they were intended to be used for military purposes, modified into tripwire-based initiation systems for VOIEDs. Although various applications of commercial systems with explosives have been documented in the Russian-Ukrainian theater of operations, the potential use of a commercial line tension sensor is unusual.
