Mobius report 94/2024 – Improvised Rocket Fire From a Large Quadcopter, Myanmar

During December 2024, a video was published showing fighters of the Golden Eagle People’s Defense Force militia, which operates in Kayin State, in eastern Myanmar, demonstrating their operational use, apparently for the first time, of a large quadcopter rigged to carry and fire two improvised rockets. The commercial quadcopter, which is mostly used in agriculture, was connected to a custom-made device that functions as an improvised launcher. Remotely controlled by an operator from the remote control in his hand, it is possible to electrically ignite the propellant in each of the rockets and fire them from the air at the target, while maintaining the stability and integrity of the UAV. This new technology is an interesting advancement in the capabilities of the militias operating in eastern Myanmar, who have already demonstrated considerable success in developing and using heavily armed UAVs, and are now upgrading to a platform used for high trajectory fire.
