In December 2024, images of modified ammunition designed for use against UAVs was published on a Russian military-focused Telegram channel, accompanied by a simple guide for their manufacturing. Following the principle of a hunting cartridge, these rounds replace the bullet with metal pellets from pneumatic weapons, which disperse upon firing, striking a wide area with high accuracy and increasing the chance of hitting an airborne UAV. The modified rounds have been manufactured and used by various units of the Russian Army for several months, representing a simplified alternative to more standardized devices, such as net guns or underbarrel shotgun auxiliary weapons. The Ukrainian Army has also begun testing this method.
