Over the past six months, a newly documented improvised Ukrainian loitering munition has been increasingly observed in use. Unlike conventional loitering munitions designed for striking strategic targets used by both Russia and Ukraine—such as the Geran-2 (Shahed-136) or the Lyuti—this jet-powered variant has a shorter range but significantly higher speeds. These enhanced capabilities pose a unique challenge to existing surface-to-air missiles, and air defense systems, introducing a faster, and more complex threat.
