On January 29, 2025, Ansar al-Tawhid in Syria released a video documenting its operations during the Deterrence of Aggression offensive held between November 27 and December 8, 2024, which led to the collapse of the Assad regime. The video shows the alleged use of a booby-trapped fixed-wing UAV targeting Syrian Arab Army forces in the first days of the campaign. Booby-trapped UAVs, including both COTS rotary-wing drones and fixed-wing UAVs, have been documented in use in other arenas. These are used to lure and target first responders and EOD personnel, illustrating the need to treat any UAV as potentially hazardous, or as UXO that must be handled by professionals with proper equipment and training.
