Mobius 20/2024 – Weaponized UAS Imported to Sudan for Rapid Support Forces Operations

On December 11, 2024, Sudanese Armed Forces soldiers documented a UAV operated by the Rapid Support Forces that was shot down or crashed intact in Sudan. The UAV, deployed as a loitering munition, had a unique configuration that included two pairs of wings on both planes of the central fuselage: short front wings and long rear wings. The rear wings featured two vertical tail stabilizers. Large numbers of this type of loitering munition have been documented in Sudan, as part of the frequent attacks targeting SAF bases, forces and infrastructure in various areas where the SAF and RSF have been engaged in ongoing conflict since December 2024, and into early 2025.

It has been alleged that the RSF received these UAVs from an external state actor, and this model has replaced an earlier, simpler fixed-wing loitering munition used throughout 2024. The current model joins an existing model of an armed UAV for releasing mortar bomb payloads over its target.
