Since the autumn of 2024, Ukrainian forces have increasingly deployed Shrike FPV drone-based loitering munitions, equipped with IV 001 multifunctional initiation systems. The IV 001 system includes features such as time-delay, self-destruct mechanism, remote-controlled explosive payload initiation, an accelerometer-based impact fuze, and a booby trap mechanism. While many of these capabilities have been observed in different initiation systems in the Ukrainian theater of operations, the IV 001 stands out for uniquely incorporating a servo motor that remotely toggles the arming switch. Improvised adaptations of this technique were identified as early as December 2022. The IV 001, along with other systems, has increasingly enabled the remote arming of explosive payloads of improvised loitering munitions during flight, maximizing operator and unit safety by minimizing exposure during engagement.
