On June 20, 2022, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation captured an alleged supporter of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in Chita, Transbaikal, in the Russian Far East. The detainee is a Russian citizen, who reportedly planned to carry out a terror attack against law enforcement officers in the region. Items seized from his possession included VOG-25 grenades modified into improvised hand grenades. This kind of improvisation was commonly used during the Chechen wars, the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, and in Syria.
