On June 29, 2022, a VBIED parked on the side of the road in the Khur Maksar neighborhood of Aden, in southern Yemen, was initiated as a convoy escorting Major General Saleh al-Sayed, a senior military official from the Lahj Governorate of the Southern Transitional Council, was passing by. Al-Sayed, the target of the blast, was only slightly injured, but some of his bodyguards and several civilians were killed. This assassination attempt is the third this year, aimed at harming senior, well-known military personnel in Aden, in southern Yemen, following a failed attempt in May 2022, and a successful assassination in March 2022. The three attacks employed the same TTP – a VBIED parked on the side of the road, believed to be RC initiated by an operator present near the scene, while the convoy with the target of the assassination was passing by.
