On July 19, 2022, an IED initiated in the central market in Ras al-Ayn, in Al-Hasakah Governorate, Syria. Three people were injured and minor damage was caused to stores in the area. There was also evidence of fragmentation damage. On the same day, a female member of the Kurdish People’s Defense Units suspected of involvement in emplacing the IED in the market was arrested. Another IED containing ball bearing fragmentation and white plastic explosive was recovered from her home, with a small delay timer known from past incidents, used by the Kurds.
