Modifying standard munitions for use with armed UAVs is a popular TTP employed by both the Russians and Ukrainians since shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The availability of large amounts of Soviet ordnance enables both sides to find inexpensive yet effective solutions. Since September 2023, Ukrainian forces have been documenting the use of TM-62 anti-tank mines as improvised bomblets, typically deployed from large, rotary-wing UAVs. Since then, several types of modified AT mines have been observed in use by Ukrainian forces as armed UAV ammunition.
